How to Root and update Motorola Charm (MB502) With Android Gingerbread (2.3.7) using SuperOneClick


This article consist of two main parts; Rooting & Upgrading

Precautions to be taken care before you start operating the rooting methods. Backup the phone's data and make sure that you have at least 80% battery charge.

First Lets head on to Rooting.

Here we are using the SuperOneClick software; rooting platform for windows only. If you are looking for Linux, please wait as we are updating.

1. Now Download SuperOneClick software



2. Install the Motorola drivers



3. In the phone go to Settings > Applications > Development select USB Debugging.

4. Now connect the USB cable and set USB mode to "Portal & Tools" or "PC mode"; and run SuperOneClick and click Root

5. That's all and you are Done!

Ao once you are done rooting your device succesfully, heards straight to upgrade your device to a higher versions of Android. 2.3.7 .

Upgrading

1. Download and install FlipOut Recovery in your phone.



2. Download the ROM and Google Apps and motorola charm patch.

3. Any of the following are the ROMs you can use.

>> update-cm-7-20130626-UNOFFICIAL-ruth-signed-RC(v0.7.0).zip (Didn't check)

>> update-cm-7-20130703-UNOFFICIAL-ruth-signed-RC2(v0.7.1).zip (Works fine)

>> Boo-CM-7-20130711.zip (Works great!!)

>> Boo-CM-7-20130930-RC4 (v0.7.3). Zip (Works. but no network.Extracting password: ohq4 )

4. Google Apps

5. Charm Patch

6. Put in the root of SD Card.

7. Opent the Application FlipOutRecovery and give the root permissions and click the Install Recovery button.

8. Once you install the file then click the "Reboot Recovery" button; now you the device will reboot with ClockworkMod menu.

9. First Wipe data then  wipe cache then go to advanced  and wipe Dalvik cache. Use Vol + and Vol - to move up and down and click 'ok' in the phone keyboard to select.

10. After wiping, Select "install zip from sdcard" then "choose zip from sdcard" then Select the ROM(ROM you want to use) and go to - yes - and wait until you finish installation,

11. Now select "install zip from sdcard" - "choose zip from sdcard" - select Google Apps and go up - yes - and wait until finish installation.

12. Now select "install zip from sdcard" - "choose zip from sdcard" - select charm patch and go up - yes - and wait until finish installation.

13. Then go back and again wipe data, cache and advanced / Dalvik cache.

14. Reboot

15. You are Done.!
